Total Number of Civil Cases Filed in Franklin County: 1983 - 1997

The civil cases depicted above involved disputes between two parties over a variety of issues, including contracts, personal injury, medical and legal malpractice, mortgage and tax foreclosure and administrative appeals. Cases involving less than $15,000 are filed in Municipal Court, while those involving more than $15,000 are filed in Common Pleas Court. Civil cases do not involve the breaking of laws; those cases are handled by the criminal courts.

The total number of civil cases in Franklin County increased from 49,594 in 1996 to 53,531 in 1997 (7.9% increase). Total cases in the Court of Common Pleas increased 13.9% from 1996 to 1997 (10,064 to 11,458). Cases in the Municipal Court increased 6.4% from 1996 to 1997 (39,530 to 42,073).
