Franklin County Unemployment Benefit Recipients: 1984-1997

In 1997, an average of 2,870 Franklin County residents received unemployment compensation each week. This represents a decrease of 47.6% from the 5,479 average weekly recipients in 1991, its most recent peak. Annually, the number of workers receiving first payments of unemployment benefits also decreased, from 11,145 in 1996 to 10,373 in 1997. Exhaustions of benefits decreased from 3,325 in 1996 to 2,947 in 1997.
