The number of domestic disturbance calls received by the Columbus Police Department has risen steadily over the last six years, from 39,730 in 1985 to 63,004 in 1991. Of the 63,004 received in 1991, only 1,251 (2.0%) resulted in arrests. The most frequent result of a domestic disturbance call was that no action was taken (55.4% of total calls) because no one at that address had called, the dispute was resolved prior to the police's arrival, or the address was not located. Parties were advised of their rights in 39.4% of the calls.
