In 1987 109,200 householders (or 21.5% of all householders) had moved during the previous year in the Columbus MSA, according to the American Housing Survey. 74.1% of recent movers moved from within the Columbus MSA. 12.8% of recent movers moved from another MSA within Ohio; 8.2% moved from MSAs in other states; and 4.4% moved from non-metropolitan areas. Only 0.6% of recent movers previously lived in a foreign country. The data also tells us about where recent movers moved to. Of the 109,200 recent movers in the Columbus MSA, 53.1% moved to the City of Columbus and 46.9% settled in the remainder of the MSA.
Recent movers are defined as households that moved into their present unit during the 12 months prior to the interview. The Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) includes the central city of Columbus, the central county of Franklin, and the surrounding counties of Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Madison, Pickaway and Union.
