During the same time period, the number of people giving decreased from 147,025 to 142,169. While fewer people are giving, they are giving larger amounts of money. In 1984, the average gift was $87.65. By 1995, the average gift had more than doubled, to $178.97.
These figures only include participation in the United Way annual campaign and other workplace-based solicitations it manages (the Combined Federal Campaign and the State of Ohio Combined Charitable Campaign). There are other fundraising campaigns throughout Franklin County that are not managed by United Way or are not workplace-based.
