There were 9,236 Franklin County residents (or 1.0% of the total population) who called "Hispanic origin" on the 1990 Census. This represents a 25.6% increase from the 7,296 Hispanic persons in 1980. As the chart indicates, the Hispanic population is relatively younger than the total population of Franklin County. In 1990, 29.2% of the Hispanic population were children and 4.9% were elderly, compared to 24.6% children and 9.6% elderly for all races.
The average size of the 3,130 households headed by persons of Hispanic origin in 1990 was relatively larger than that of all households in Franklin County. In 1990, the average size of Hispanic households was 2.95 persons, compared to an average of 2.47 persons per household for all races. Of all households in 1990, 45.1% were married-couple families and 9.8% were female-headed (no husband present) with children. This compares to 48.2% and 8.5%, respectively, for all races.
