In 1990, Asian and Pacific Islander householders had the highest average monthly contract rent of $396, although the number of units involved is relatively small (3,641 units). White householders had the second highest at $386, followed by householders of other races at $364, American Indian, Eskimo and Aleut householders at $386, and black householders at $279. Householders who indicated that they were of Hispanic origin had average monthly contract rents of $361 in 1990.
Contract rent is the monthly rent agreed to or contracted for, regardless of any furnishings, utilities, fees, meals, or services that may be included.
"Averages," as measures of what is typical for a group, are strongly influenced by extremely high or low values. A better measure is "median," which indicates that half of all values fall above the median value, and half fall below. The median monthly contract rent for all households in Franklin County was $355 in 1990. Median contract rent is not available by race.
