Over the last twenty years, the majority of Franklin County's growth has been due to increases in minority populations. Between 1970 and 1990 the white population increased by 8.1%, the black population increased by 46.4% and other minority groups, collectively, increased by 574.2%. Over this period minority populations increased their share of the total population from 12.9% to 18.5%. It is expected that this trend will continue.
