Growth in the number of households over the last two decades has far outpaced the growth of the total population, indicating smaller-sized households in Franklin County. Small-sized households are increasing faster than are all other sized households. Of all household sizes, single-person households increased most rapidly, increasing from 18% to 28% of all households between 1970 and 1990. Conversely, households with 5+ persons decreased from 20% of all households in 1970, to just 9% in 1990. In 1990, 60% of all households had only one or two members.
